The short version: we try to be accurate, but use your own judgement, especially outdoors.

General information

Information on this site is provided in good faith for general interest, education and inspiration. While we try to be accurate and to cite trusted sources (RSPB, BTO, Wildlife Trusts, Met Office, IPCC, DEFRA, Natural England and others), no warranty of any kind is given, express or implied.

Outdoor activities

Cycling, walking, swimming, climbing, wildlife watching and any other outdoor activity described on this site carry risks. You are responsible for your own safety, your equipment, your route choice and your assessment of the weather and conditions. Follow the Countryside Code, respect private land, and never disturb nesting wildlife.

Wildlife and the law

All wild birds, their nests and their eggs are protected under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981. Do not cut hedges in nesting season (1 March to 31 August), do not disturb a nest in use, and do not handle wildlife unless it is clearly in distress and you know what you're doing. When in doubt, contact the RSPCA or a local wildlife rescue.
