Dedication

Dedicated to Sir David Attenborough

A globally recognised stalwart who has campaigned tirelessly for over seventy years for nature and the natural world.

A Ride For Life is dedicated to the life and work of Sir David Attenborough, who, in his own hand, sent the note below offering his best wishes for the success of this project.

A handwritten note

Handwritten note from Sir David Attenborough wishing A Ride For Life every success in its new campaign.
"Dear Rob Heap, Thank you for your letter. I wish you every success in your new campaign. Best wishes - David Attenborough"

Sir David has been instrumental in educating us all about the plight of our precious planet, and the species that reside on and in it - which includes us. His thought-provoking books and documentaries are essential reading, listening and watching for all of us.

Sir David's first book in the Zoo Quest series was published in 1956. A Ride For Life has a copy of that book, signed on the title page. As Sir David approached his 100th birthday, the style of his signature in the letter above had not changed significantly in the seventy years since he signed the book.

A Life on Our Planet

In 2021 the founder of A Ride For Life read Sir David's book A Life on Our Planet. For anyone interested in the environment and nature, this book is a must read. It contains a profound, experience-based message about how Sir David has witnessed a change in the climate and a depletion of many species on Earth.

Frozen Planet 2

Sir David reinforced his message at the end of the documentary Frozen Planet 2, asking us all to look at our lifestyles and find ways of reducing our carbon footprint. His closing words:

"We can do it. It's within our power, to do it. We CAN do it. We MUST do it. THEN, THERE WILL BE A FUTURE FOR THE PLANET."

A Ride For Life is, and will continue to be, inspired by Sir David Attenborough - a complementary, free to use information website designed to help us all follow Sir David's advice, and do it.

Thank you, Sir David.
